The Song Of The Lamp

I learnt it from a wandering tramp.
It is the Song Of The Lamp.
And it goes almost anywhere with almost anything
There's a bad feeling in the air and we all get scared
When he starts to sing.

The words therein pertain to truth,
Lifted from the Book Of Ruth.
And he stands on the promenade or any place he can.
It's a mad dog's own calling card
But it gets him in to the police van.

And it goes like this.

He hurls abuse and throws a fit.
Come on and do the personality split.
And his tonsils are wearing thin and all the hounds join in.
There's a welcome intermission when he stops to take
Another swig of gin.

And it goes like this.
